Canada received a record 22.1 million international tourists from abroad in 2019. The following travelers need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to board their flight to Canada. However, these travelers do not need an eTA if entering by land or sea – for instance driving from the U.S. or coming by bus, train, or boat, including cruise ship. Citizens from Bulgaria, Romania and Brazil can apply for ETA when travelling by air. But they need a visa when they travel car, bus, train or boat including cruise ship.

Rest of the travelers require a visa to enter Canada. While the green card holders of US need ETA to enter Canada, US citizens are ETA exempt. The admission of FN into Canada as a temporary resident is a privilege, not a right.
